A Little Background Into My Work As An Artist...

When I think of myself as an artist, I define myself as one who craves the power and control of creating a piece of work that is inherently unique to me. I paint and draw for the enjoyment of the process and for the emotional satisfaction of reveling in the final product. My subject matter has always been personally based, dealing with a specific element of my life. This past year, the subject of my work has been focused around my family pets. The distinct texture of their fur, the bright emotion in their faces, and their character, exclusive to each individual animal, is what has compelled me to immortalize these creatures through my art.

Color and detail embellish all of my paintings. I aspire to capture my audience through the use of brilliant colors and precise detail. I want to envelop my viewers with the same emotions that I experience as I am creating my work. When I think of an artist that is heavily influential to me, I think of the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. She was the epitome of an emotionally drawn artist and her ability to display compassion in her work through color and drama heavily influences me in my painting style. My paintings are all done with gouache. I choose to use gouache because I can easily manipulate the paint by layering it until I get the defined texture I am seeking.

The three paintings displayed below are titled, “C.K.,” “Chico,” and “Alfie.” The drawings displayed are titled, “Snickers,” and "Holly," and both are done in graphite. All of the titles are appropriately fashioned after the animal's name. These paintings and drawings are my way of sharing my animals’ wondrous personalities with the modern world.
